Travels from Anaheim, California

Steve Beuerlein is a former University of Notre Dame and NFL quarterback who has lived life at the intersection of faith, family, and football.

Raised in Southern California, Steve’s journey began at Servite High School in Anaheim—an all-boys Catholic school known for academic rigor, brotherhood, and a commitment to forming young men of faith and character. A standout 4-sport letterman, Steve led Servite to the 1982 CIF Southern Section Big Five football championship and was named Player of the Year. That same year, he also earned All-CIF honors in basketball. It was in a high-profile matchup against Ohio’s Moeller High School that Steve caught the attention of then-Notre Dame head coach Gerry Faust—himself a former Moeller legend.

After guiding Servite to eleven consecutive wins, Steve was offered a scholarship to play quarterback for the Fighting Irish, a dream come true for a young Catholic athlete who understood the spiritual and historical weight of representing such a storied program.

At Notre Dame, Steve was a four-year starter and played his senior season under the legendary Lou Holtz. Holtz later credited Steve’s leadership and example as critical to setting the tone for Notre Dame’s 1988 National Championship team. Steve remains one of only two quarterbacks in Notre Dame history to beat archrival USC four years in a row—a testament to his consistency, competitiveness, and poise under pressure.

Drafted by the Los Angeles Raiders in 1987, Steve went on to enjoy a remarkable 17-season career in the NFL, playing for the Raiders, Cowboys, Cardinals, Jaguars, Panthers, and Broncos. From leading the Cowboys to their first playoff win in nearly a decade to setting franchise passing records with the Carolina Panthers and earning a Pro Bowl nod in 1999, Steve's career is marked by resilience, excellence, and leadership.

Off the field, however, is where Steve’s most enduring legacy is being written. Grounded deeply in his Catholic faith, Steve views his career and life as gifts from God—opportunities to serve others, grow in humility, and live with integrity. Whether he’s mentoring young athletes, supporting community causes, or speaking about the challenges and rewards of walking faithfully in a secular world, Steve always brings his Catholic values to the forefront.

Since retiring from the NFL, Steve has remained close to the game as a commentator for CBS Sports and Compass Media Networks, where he currently calls the national broadcast of Dallas Cowboys games. He also serves as a commercial insurance broker in Orange County, where he lives with his family. Steve is the proud father of four children, and his youngest daughter, Kendall, continues the family’s Notre Dame tradition as a current student.

A committed husband, father, and man of faith, Steve believes that the greatest victories in life come not from trophies, but from trusting in God’s plan, serving others, and staying true to your values—on and off the field.

Steve’s talks are always tailored to the theme and goals of the event, but he often incorporates timeless principles that have shaped his life and career. A core framework he frequently shares is his "4 Pillars for Building a Solid Foundation"—values that resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds:

1. The Golden Rule – Treat others as you would like to be treated.

2. Give Great Effort – In everything you do, give your best.

3. Do The Right Thing (DTRT) – Always make decisions based on what you believe is right.

4. Keep the Faith – Because of living out 1–3, trust that God will always provide for you and those you love.

These guiding pillars offer a strong moral compass that Steve weaves into his message, reminding us all that faith, character, and effort are the true measures of success.
