Travels from Dallas, Texas

Maury Buford is a former NFL champion, accomplished entrepreneur, and inspirational speaker whose life is a testament to perseverance, purpose, and faith. Best known as the punter for the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX Championship team, Maury brings the same discipline, humor, and heart that defined his athletic career to every audience he addresses. His journey—from a small-town Texas athlete to a Super Bowl champion and faith-filled leader—continues to inspire people across the nation to live with integrity, gratitude, and grace.

Maury’s early life was marked by dedication and determination. A graduate of Mount Pleasant High School, he helped lead his team to the Texas State Baseball Championship, a defining achievement that taught him the value of teamwork and persistence. Maury went on to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing and built a remarkable athletic legacy as one of the most accomplished punters in college football history.

At Texas Tech, Maury became the first freshman in 35 years to lead the nation in punting average, earning Academic All-America honors and recognition for both athletic and academic excellence. His leadership and skill earned him a place on the All-Southwest Conference Football Team, and his impact on the program was later immortalized when he was inducted into both the Texas Tech Football Hall of Honor and the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame.

Maury’s professional career reached its peak with the Chicago Bears, where he played under legendary coach Mike Ditka and alongside icons like Walter Payton, Mike Singletary, and Jim McMahon. As part of one of the most storied teams in NFL history, Maury helped the Bears dominate the 1985 season and secure a Super Bowl victory, cementing his place in football history.

Following his NFL career, Maury carried his competitive spirit and leadership skills into the business world, founding and operating a successful roofing company in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. His entrepreneurial success reflects the same principles that guided his athletic life—hard work, honesty, and a commitment to excellence. Yet for Maury, true success is measured not by trophies or titles, but by faith, family, and integrity.

A devout Catholic, Maury’s speaking career allows him to share his faith and life lessons with audiences ranging from Fortune 500 companies and corporate teams to parish groups, men’s conferences, and youth retreats. Maury blends humor, humility, and heartfelt storytelling to deliver powerful talks on leadership, teamwork, faith under pressure, patriotism, fatherhood, and character-driven success. Maury lives by two of his favorite quotes: “Show Up at the Show-Down” and “Well Done is better than Well Said.” These simple yet profound mottos capture his belief that perseverance and action define a person far more than words alone.

Today, Maury cherishes his wife, family, and good health above all. He continues to mentor young athletes, support faith-based outreach, and live out the values he preaches—leading with love, working with purpose, and walking with faith.
