Kelly Breaux is a writer, author, speaker, and the President of Red Bird Ministries, a Catholic apostolate that supports families after the loss of a child at any age or stage. A recognized expert in child loss grief, Kelly brings insight and deeply personal experience to her work. She and her husband, Ryan, have been married for 23 years and have endured the heartbreaking loss of four children: Talon (at 15 days old in 2005), Emma Grace (at 3 years and 10 months in 2009), Christian Ryan (miscarried at 11.5 weeks in 2012), and Eva Catherine (miscarried at 6.5 weeks in 2022).
For the past seven years, Kelly has worked exclusively with the bereaved community, personally accompanying over 500 grieving families and reaching thousands more through the ministry’s programs. Under her leadership, Red Bird Ministries has expanded to more than 30 communities nationwide and trained over 100 peer and pastoral leaders to walk with families through the hardest moments of their lives.
Kelly is also a passionate advocate for systemic change in how the Church and society support families after loss. She is the author of several books and resources for grieving families and ministry leaders. Her memoir, Hiding in the Upper Room: How the Catholic Sacraments Healed Me from the Grief of Child Loss, shares her powerful story of healing through the lens of faith and is available in the Red Bird Ministries gift shop.
After enduring the heartbreaking loss of three of their children over 18 years of marriage, Kelly and Ryan Breaux discovered a striking absence of resources and pastoral support for grieving parents within the Catholic Church. Their own journey of sorrow, healing, and restoration eventually led to the founding of Red Bird Ministries in 2018—a ministry created to accompany parents who have experienced the loss of a child, from miscarriage through adulthood.
Through their lived experience, the Breauxs found that healing their marriage had a ripple effect—bringing peace not only to their relationship but also to their extended family. Their ministry reflects a deep commitment to honoring life at every stage and offering compassionate support to families who have embraced God’s call to parenthood, even when that call includes suffering and loss. Red Bird Ministries extends that care to all forms of child loss, including miscarriage—helping families walk through grief with faith, dignity, and hope.
