Dr. Harvey Castro’s work sits at one of the most urgent crossroads of our time: faith, medicine, and technology. As an emergency physician, he has stood at bedsides where seconds decide life or death. As a global leader in artificial intelligence in healthcare, he now helps guide how powerful technologies can serve, not replace, the human person. Known internationally as “DrGPT,” Dr. Castro brings a rare message of hope: that innovation, when guided by faith, can restore human dignity, deepen compassion, and extend the healing ministry of Christ in a digital age.
Dr. Castro is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician with over two decades of frontline clinical experience. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a dental assistant, where his vocation of service and discipline was formed early. He earned degrees in Biomedical Science and Political Science from Texas A&M University, his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Texas Medical Branch, and a Physician Executive MBA from the University of Tennessee.
He is a former healthcare CEO, having built and led multi-site emergency care organizations employing hundreds of clinicians. Today, he serves as a senior advisor to health systems, governments, and institutions worldwide on the ethical and practical use of AI in medicine, including advisory work with the Singapore Ministry of Health.
Dr. Castro is the author of ChatGPT and Healthcare and a five-time TEDx speaker. His work has been featured across global media, and he has been recognized as a leading voice on ethical AI, patient safety, and human-centered innovation. Grounded firmly in Catholic social teaching, he emphasizes human dignity, subsidiarity, solidarity, and the sanctity of life in every discussion of technology. His central conviction is simple: AI must remain a tool under human moral authority, never an oracle, never a replacement for conscience, and never detached from love.
