Fr. Thomas Loya is a Byzantine Catholic priest known for his diverse background and multifaceted contributions to the Church. His journey to the priesthood and beyond is marked by a unique blend of artistic talent, theological scholarship, and pastoral dedication.

 

Before entering the seminary, Fr. Loya pursued a career in commercial art and design, earning a degree from the Cleveland Institute of Art. His early professional life was characterized by creativity and a passion for visual arts. This artistic foundation would later play a significant role in his ministry, allowing him to communicate complex theological concepts through accessible and engaging mediums. Fr. Loya felt a calling to the priesthood, which led him to further his studies in theology. He attended the North American College in Rome, a prestigious institution known for training priests for service in the United States. During his time in Rome, he earned a Bachelor of Sacred Theology (STB) from the Angelicum University. His rigorous academic training, combined with his artistic background, equipped him with a unique perspective on faith and ministry.

In 1982, Fr. Loya was ordained to the priesthood. His ordination marked the beginning of a dedicated ecclesiastical career, during which he would serve in various capacities, including youth and young adult ministry. His ability to connect with younger generations became a hallmark of his pastoral work, as he used his artistic skills and theological insights to engage and inspire. Currently, Fr. Loya serves as a Byzantine Catholic parish pastor. His leadership at the parish is characterized by a deep commitment to fostering a vibrant community life rooted in Eastern Catholic spirituality.

Fr. Loya’s pastoral approach is informed by his artistic sensibilities, which he integrates into liturgical settings and community outreach efforts. In addition to his parish duties, Fr. Fr. Loya extends his ministry through the media, hosting two popular radio programs. "Light of the East"is broadcast in more than 60 cities across the United States on several Catholic radio networks, including EWTN Radio. This program explores the rich traditions of Eastern Catholicism, making them accessible to a wide audience. His second program, "Beyond the Veil," is aired on Ave Maria Radio and delves into the mystical and spiritual dimensions of the faith.Through these radio programs, Fr. Loya brings his unique blend of artistic insight, theological knowledge, and pastoral experience to listeners across the country. His engaging style and profound insights make complex theological ideas accessible and relevant to everyday life.

Fr. Loya is also renowned for his application of The Theology of the Body, a series of lectures by Pope John Paul II that explores the nature of human identity, sexuality, and divine love. His background in art and counseling provides him with a distinctive lens through which to interpret and teach these principles. Fr. Loya uses the Theology of the Body to address various aspects of the human experience, offering a holistic approach to understanding human dignity and relationships.
